The wings of the Austin 101/Morris J and JB are bolted to the arches, which form and integral part of the van's sides. My cab has catastrophic tinworm, so these arches were very badly corroded and when I talked to my guru, Iain McKenzie, he suggested cutting them out altogether and fabricating replacements, which could then be welded in place.

Elsewhere on this forum you can see pictures of Iain showing me how to make the parts.

I have just finished welding the parts into my cab and thought that some of you might be interested to see what I did.

Let me apologise in advance for the size of some of these images. I still haven't found out how to compact them.

The first image shows the underside of the side scuttle of the cab.

This is inside the driver's side of the cab and you can see the state of the now very feeble arch.

I spot welded two of the fabricated parts together, as well as bolting them to the wings......just to ensure there was no slippage.

(close up on the captive nuts, which will be essential in the lower/front part of the arch which is enclosed)

Be Kind! Sad
This is only my second weld experience ever, the first being a patch on a wing.

The top line is internal; the bottom is penetration from the outside, where the bottom of the trimmed side is secured to the arch.

Not too much distortion. I am fairly confident I can hammer any concaving out.
