The AMC Pacer wasnt the best looking or the marina convertible Shocked .Some of the newer Renaults are horrendous looking. As for older cars they all had their own individuality but I would never pick out any make in case I offend anyone. Cool

I have a curious fascination with the Pacer; it's so ugly, it's quite... cute! A bit like the Citroen 2CV!
If the Pacer was available in rhd, I might just be tempted by one Embarassed

Mike,

I rather doubt that the Pacer was ever offered with RHD. As I recall the passenger side door was longer than the drivers door to make it easier for passengers to get out of the back seats.

Hi
From Wiki
Quote:
United Kingdom
The Pacer was only available with left-hand drive, and the British importer converted it to right-hand drive by leaving the majority of the steering gear on the left-hand side of the car, and running a chain-drive behind the dashboard from the steering wheel (now on the right-hand side) to the top of the steering column. The car retained its unequal-length doors, designed for LHD markets, meaning that in the UK the longer door was on the driver's side, leaving the passengers to use the smaller door, which "in the typically confined British parking spot was virtually impossible" The Pacer was wider than a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and slightly longer than the then-current Ford Cortina.

I find the first modern version of the Multipla offensive to the eye

I saw one AMC Pacer in the summer of 1981 parked outside the then Midland Bank in our village. It was lhd and in a gold colour and it had a few people looking at it. From memory it had diplomatic 'plates, an UK number but the numberplates had red edging.
The general opinion of the observers was that it was ghastly.

Not as ghastly as this though - the FSO Polonez :

Because it started off as a clean sheet of paper. No budget or engineering restrictions, just a desire to make something different.

Rolls Royce did the same, creating a huge, ugly, monster.

Didn't the Multipla end European car of the year? Never liked the shape.

I thought the Multipla was so ugly that it had a beauty all of its own, But then, I think Landcrabs are rather pretty too!

I doth my cap to whoever penned the Multipla. At least it had a style (!) different to the norm, even if it looked like it'd received a major beating by the ugly stick - then gone back for seconds.

For the same reason, I quite like the Nissan Cube.

I doubt that I'd ever buy either of them mind Smile

I agree that the R-R featured is ghastly, although in standard spec I quite like them too Smile

For truly awful styling, look no further than Pontiac's might Aztek Shocked

Going a little further back in time, behold the jaw-dropping beauty of the Datsun 120A ....

A.M.C. had an assembly plant in Swindon until the mid 70's a range of A.M.C. Cars were built there from K.C.D. Kits that is where the right hand drive conversions were mare
