|
|
Hi all, just bought my first pre-war car and would like to track down the history as far back as I can go. I am just about to join the relevant club but should I try any other way.
DO YOU KNOW THIS CAR
This is my new baby.

Lovely car.
I always putting a letter in the local paper from where the vehicle comes from very useful. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Your little Morris 8 looks great!
The club may well be able to offer some details of its history.
However, the Club also offers many other benefits such as technical information and help with spares.
I am a member living in Scotland and regard my annual subscription as great value for money. |

I think you can get a cars history from the DVLA. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Yes, first tip would be to go on the DVLA web site and download form V888. Fill it in, send it off with some money (a fiver, last time I looked, and no, I don't know why you can't fill it in and pay online) and they'll send you copies of all previous registration-related documents.
It varies from car to car just how much you get, mine went back to it's first application for registration, but then it's not as old. |

It is a lovely little Morris. IMO they were one of the best cars of the thirties. I hope you have lots of fun with her.
Somewhere I have a book written by a couple that drove theirs to Yugoslavia and over various mountain ranges then back home. This biggest problem was broken springs. Local Blacksmiths made new ones though.. |

I don't know if he was looking through rose tinted specs but my Dad always used to say that the Morris 8 was the best car he ever had. He had three of them until the final one, a Series E, was replaced by a new Vauxhall FA Victor. It was nice for a while but rusted badly.
I remember on one holiday the speedo crept up to 70 m.p.h. but it was pretty exciting! |

Try contacting the county records archive for the RM (Carlise?) plate. I have had some success by doing this. On one occasion they sent me a copy of the log book on another the year I was interested in was missing.
Worth a try? _________________ Alistair

Not always,Larry, I tried to find the history of my Range Rover LSE from DVLA and was refused. Simply owning the car is not a good enough reason to know its history!
Data Protection, apparently. |
