Although I have a few on the go at the moment a 68 Riley Elf has come up for grabs, years ago I had minis in various guises over a 15 yr. period so I know some of the problems.

The Elf comes with some new parts, it runs but is not road worthy and said to be complete. My intention is to view in the near future with a totally open mind expecting the worst including some of the panels may need to be made. I am told that the floor is sound with some patches welded to the wheel arches, nothing mentioned about the sills other than they are OK, front wings were replaced 5 yrs ago, All the bright work is good but the bumpers would require a rechrome for show purposes.

Not having owned an Elf before and it's been 35 yrs. since having a Mini I would appreciate some feedback from owners ex-owners and experts on the highs and lows of these Great British icons.

Many thanks for your input.

The worst panels are the rear ones as the from the doors onwards it all normal mini panels apart from the front panel and the bonnet. A normal front panel can be tweaked to fit though!
A 1968 will be a mark 3 elf with wind up windows and the doors, locks and winding mechanisma from memory are specific to the model only and are differnt to normal 1970 onwards (Mk 3 onwards) round nose mini ones!

Your right Bob, it's a Mk 3 with the hidden door hinges, very strange that no one is producing the rear quarters, is there a demand for them? will have a close look at that part and take a magnet with me.

Thanks for your reply.
