I vaguely remember being at Butlins Filey in 1956 and riding on bikes that were joined side to side. Can anyone else remember them. It was nearly 60 years ago. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I think they may have been commonplace at many seaside resorts, I definitely remember them being available for hire at Mablethorpe back in the '50s.

There was also a chap who had a bike with a steering wheel in place of the handle bars though I can't remember where the brake levers were... _________________ David

That's them. I never thought to look on the main site. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

I used to see a four wheeled version being used on the road occasionally, around the Vale of Berkeley. No idea of the legality of that, mind you... |

I think the general name for these, was "social cycle".
You could certainly use them on the road, when I were a lad.
I well remember my aunt and uncle, used to hire one, to go into Gt Yarmouth for shopping, when we stayed on North Denes caravan camp.
Happy days, walking along the railway line, at the back of the camp, with granddad, picking up coal in a bucket for the caravan fire. Then crossing onto the racecourse, to pick mushrooms to have with breakfast. |
