Hi all,

Wandering around Goodwood, a few people were to be seen drawing various vehicles on display.

Have you ever commissioned artwork, or professional photographs, of your old car (or whatever) ?

RJ

No. I've seen some people having pro photos taken and printed on various things, either with the normal background or with a stylised one, but as a bit of a keen amateur photog myself, I still maintain the idea I might be able to do something worthwhile myself. If I could just motivate myself to get the car to somewhere with a decent backdrop, I might just get away with it though I have a lot to learn.

I did become a bit suspicious of one recent stall selling what appeared to be paintings of historic motorsport scenes, paddock shots etc, on a variety of media such as greeting cards, prints and so on. These looked like someone had done a nice watercolour, but I suspect a Photoshop filter of some description. Why? Because if you were going to spend the time doing a painting of a nice scene of a historic motorsport paddock, would you include a bloke standing right in front of one of the cars taking a photo of it, or would you paint around him?

A few years ago I took a photo of my '63 1.5 with the Forth Bridge (the railway one) in the background, I use it as 'wallpaper' on all my computers. Then, more recently I bought a series of watercolours of Rileys from an artist on Ebay and was so pleased with them I commissioned him to paint one of my car from the photo for my O/H for her birthday - she was really chuffed with it (honestly!) and so was I. Check out Ebay seller larch500 if interested/curious.

I haven't personally commissioned any pictures of my cars, but my eldest son, who is a professional photographer, has presented me with magnificent framed posters of my three oldest cars. He printed them on canvas and stretched and framed them in magnificent wooden frames. There are proudly hanging on my study/library walls.
