Morning all,

Newspapers, TV, and email seem to be full of this Black Friday thing, where people with too much time on their hands, queue for hours to save a few £ on a new TV or toaster Smile

Have you, or do you own, a black coloured classic? If so, do you have any photos to hand?

Here's my old Devon, current whereabouts unknown ..

Trying to hide the non-black bits. I favour the "Buy Nothing Day" approach to this irrelevant consumer day.

The Morris Cowley which departed a year ago:

I'm not a great fan of black cars, but must admit it did suit the Morris.

Apologies for going off topic, but I'm fascinated by something that's not occurred to me before. How the devil can you work on the offside of a bus engine with the cab in the way?

Hi goneps
Made enquiries for you on a bus site. Took36 minutes ti get a reply.
Quote:

Tne engine design was usually sucn tnat you didn't much need to (and tnis meant tnat LHD export models needed a different engine - as did tne AEC Q). However, there was a removabie side panel in the cab: which proviided moderate access.
I recall removing a Daimler engine exhaust manifold that way, when it was still warm. Starter motors would usually be found tucked away down there as well.

Thanks, Penman—much as I suspected, then. A different engine for LHD models, indeed! Even worse access than with the current fashion of rear-mounted engines.

London busses prior to the Routemaster were AEC, I think.
