I know there are plenty of regular Ebayers on the forum, so I was wondering what your success rate is with saved searches / alerts? I supposedly have my account set up to send me emails when things are listed that I'm looking out for, sometimes I get the odd email about something which may be worth a look but it doesn't happen often. Anyway, about a month ago I was looking for a particular out of print book, couldn't find one for sale anywhere online and so set up alerts with Ebay and AbeBooks. Not heard anything from either, and yet this last week I stumbled across a listing for this book on Ebay while looking for something else! It was on a buy it now listing at a very good price, so needless to say I snapped it up - but why no email alert? The listing had no obvious errors and even the correct ISBN so it really should have worked.
Call me cynical if you like, but I can't help wondering if Ebay are nobbling their own alert system to have people trawling the site regularly for their specific wants and hopefully buying other stuff as a result. I wouldn't put it past them... |
