Ah!
The heady whiff or burning Castrol R!
The shriek of burning rubber and the clouds of blue smoke at corners!
The thunder of proper open exhausts!
For me, the early days of real motor racing, when race meetings tended to be a mixture of veterans (such as the Amilcar in your Pic, Rick), and the rest. ERAs, Bugattis, Bentleys, Invictas, Sunbeams, Delage, keep on going.
Vintage racing cars, drifting around corners with the pilot wrestling with a huge Bluemel's cord-covered steering wheel which shuddered at each and every bump........ such as Neil Corner, Nigel Arnold-Foster, et al,
(Old Wrench wallows in delightful nostalgia!) _________________ Well, apart from that, did you enjoy the play, Mrs Lincoln? |

Hi
Here is a collection of Cooper Bristols from Oulton Park in 2005.
There is also a pale blue car and a green one with a LH side exhaust system, I don't know their IDs
I find the 3 different "elephant trunks" interesting, does anyone know why they differ _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

These are a few of my better photos - of which there are few!. Taken as the sun rose over the Le Mans Classic 2010.
And this is my favourite, taken, like the others, at Indianapolis on the Sunday morning. I just love the way the sun hits the flank, the reflection of the trees, the way the sun lights the rear tyre.
And I like this, the start of Grid 6 in 2008:-
I have about 25,000 others if you are interested! |

I think I've put most of these up before. |

Not a good photo, but the precursor to a very expensive bill. Leaving Indianapolis towards Arnage, you can just see the rear of the Ferrari Bread Van exiting stage right for the tyre wall.
The dust cloud was so immense we never saw the car limp out of the dust and go back to the pits! |

We don't often see one of these! Piccard Pictet of Switzerland. They were famed for their "valveless" engines; a Burt McCollum Argyll patented single sleeve valve design but this looks like a poppet valve V8.
Interesting. |

Ray, probably the only bit of that car that came from the Piccard Pictet factory is the radiator! The car is one of several specials created in recent times using former WW1 aero engines; this one has a 9-litre engine (don't know the make, sorry!) and the chassis looks suspiciously like a brand new one! |
