A not very well know figure, Ray Tomlinson died today.
In 1971 he was responsible for elevating the then little known @ sign to something that is now recognised throughout the modern world.
The origins of the sign are uncertain, but likely date back to an abbreviation first used as an abbreviation by Monks during medieval times.
It is certainly much better than the www, which introduces all websites.
