I've just bought a very nice 1930s extinguisher with a car maker's name on it. It originally had an 'oxy-copper' finish according to the advert I have but is now a dark greeny-brown with just a bit of the copper showing on the raised lettering. It needs cleaning up but I don't want to over do it, just remove all the 'crud'. Any suggestions? _________________ David

Coqui you get it in an ultrasonic cleaner? Mine is great for smaller items and doesn't leave a shiny, polished surface unless it is shiny and polished under the dirt.

Sorted. Vinegar, salt and flour. Make into a paste, spread on, leave for a while then 'agitate' it with an electric toothbrush - not using the brush heads currently on the bathroom shelf... Works a treat and removes the worst of the 'crud' leaving a clean yet far from polished finish, just what I wanted!! _________________ David
