As above - Lucas e418 chain driven - I believe its been overhauled, but the body has got rusty in storage and I want to clean it up and paint it. Its chain driven off the left side of the alloy front casing. There is a brass access plug in front of its shaft, and I have seen something that says remove the plug, undo the nut visible behind, and the dynamo will come out - but what happens to the chain wheel and chain? Do they fall into the bottom of the casing, or what ?
thanks

| Assuming no better way of doing the hob becomes apparent... If, after removing the plug and the nut, you introduced some sort of rod at the same time as removing the dynamo from the other side - sliding it into the centre of the chainwheel in place of the dynamo shaft - that should retain the chainwheel until you're ready to replace the dynamo. |
