Hi
Just been in my local Lidl and they have a fibre optic inspection tool at £39.99 with a viewing screen in the handle, it appears to also have a gripping tool and different light levels. who knows it might even be able to inspect bores as well as looking at in accessible ares on the outside of the engine.
I can't find it on their website so it might have been in last weeks offers but still in stock.

I find most of the tools on offer in Aldi and Lidl to be reasonably priced and fair quality. Perhaps not adequate for full time professional use but perfectly acceptable for DIY.
I like to browse round these when shopping and it adds interest to a task I normally regard as a chore.

You have to be quick , some of these "specials " run out very quick. Limited numbers sent to each store. I have been caught out , did not have my skates on !

In my experience the quality of their hand tools can be a bit 'iffy'; I bought a set of screw drivers as a third set but their tips were very soft and soon got mangled. My best Lidl tool bargain was a digital micrometer for £6.99, identical to one sold elsewhere for more than £20.

You tend to get what you pay for with tools. I have an agreement with Lidl,I don't sell rubbery burgers, they dont sell professional quality tools.

We haven't got a Lidl locally, but the stuff I've had from Aldi has generally been pretty good. And it has a 3-year warranty, which I've claimed on more than once, and (unusually perhaps) is very much worth the paper it's written on, as long as you have a receipt.

I've not had problems with guarantees in general, I reckon most places rely on most punters losing or throwing the receipts.

I wonder what they do with the ex NHS ones?. The ones that they stick .....well you know what they do with them. They come with a full size TV screen and tools that pop out the end.

I bought one and took it back next day broken. The screen is nice and clear and the 'snake' is a sturdy flexible thing but the downfall is the lens and led lamps are in a 2" plastic bit at the end (where else Rolling Eyes ) which snapped in half allowing the camera to flop around. Refunded with no quibble.

Just to add to this,I had a chat yesterday with a chap who had bought one of these scopes (not Lidl this one came from Draper) and stuffed it down into the sills of his car via whatever holes he could find.
He said the state of the internals put the wind up him with surface and flaky rust although the vehicle looked good on the outside. He's now determined to cut off and replace the sills. For what its worth I thought simply filling them with a good rust preventive would be more sensible .From my experience of these things I'd say they tend to make things look worse than they are (a bit like looking down a tunnel with a torch compared to looking when its illuminated with lights). I'd be dubious of cutting sills off that look sound etc unless the evidence from a scope revealed some serious nasties. What do you think?.

Agreed, unless the metal was heavily perforated inside or out, or clearly becoming weakened, I think I'd leave well alone unless a full re-spray was imminent, in which case I might investigate further I suppose.
