Hi all,
While at a show recently, I overhead the owner of a reasonably tidy RV8 waxing lyrical to someone about how the insurance company now had his P&J insured for £25k. I was surprised it was that high tbh although I freely admit I know little about them, nor the market and demand for them either.
Are they any good? They don't appeal to me, but I assume their loyal band of followers have good reason to rate them...?

A quick search reveals plenty of RV8s in the mid-teens; a sub-10,000 mile one at £22,000, so his £25k value seems a bit ott.
I have no experience of them so cannot really comment on their value, except to say if I had that sort of money to spend on a 2-seater sports car, there are other cars on the market I would choose before the MG ... |

I'd have a 911....still regret selling my 1982 911 SC Coupe Sport with 12 months MOT for £6k !!!!!!!!!!

I have driven in one a few years ago. It did not make an impact on me, well not one that says "want to have one".
While it is pretty fast, it feels cramped inside whereas your usual MGB feels roomy. I did not care much for the 90s "improvements" and interior, it seems too much trying to warrant the high price it sold for when new. I would rather have the nice dash and leather seats of a 1966 MGB. In fact I would rather have a nice 1966 MGB for much less money, and for the extra cash saved get the engine tuned up, maybe some decent headers on the exhaust and you have a much nicer car.
(Although I still would prefer my TR4 ) _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

Someone who lives a few miles away from me has one.
It's a Woodcote Green Japanese re-import which he bought some years ago at a very modest price.
When the car was 7 years old it was due it's "Shaken" which as most of you know is a strict and comprehensive inspection which Japanese cars undergo.
There was then (2005) a "Grey Import" dealer of Mitsubishi Pajeros, Toyota Prados, Subaru Imprezas and so on here in North Wales who used to source his stock direct from Japan via an agent and this is how this particular MGR V8 arrived here.
I had a chat with the owner and he was pleased with it. A 60k kilometre 1994 car which was immaculate and it had optional power steering. The air conditioning unit takes up a lot of the passenger footwell. It cost him dearly for a genuine mph speedometer and the electronic chip to display imperial miles.
Woodcote Green was the colour of most of the MGR V8s built but the owner told me his preferred colour would have been Nightfire Red in which a few cars were finished.
A friend owned a 1976 MGBGT V8 for years but having driven that several times I think I would have preferred the 1990s RV8 recreation although I was not offered a drive in the car I have written about here.
There was a MGR V8 for sale on Anglesey last year at £13,000.

I have not driven one, but a customer who I know quite well has owned one for about a year and he is pleased with it. His previous classic was an MG Midget so it must seem like a 'supercar' by comparison.
I usually think I am going to like these 'retro' cars; the new Mini, the VW Beetle, the Fiat 500 etc. but somehow, after trying them for a while, I am left feeling disappointed. I think you may have to go up market with, say, a Vicarage Jag to get a real sense of satisfaction. |

We rented a Fiat 500 for four days when walking in Devon a few months ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the car and would not mind having one as an extra car.
The big disappointment for me with the new Mini was that horrible plastic huge speedo, and the plastic switches everywhere. That put me off the car. My brother owns a fast Cooper S convertible and while it is a blast to drive, I could not live with one because of the cheap interior. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |
