Afternoon all,

I can't say that I've ever visited the factory, or the site of the factory, where any car I've owned was actually built - have you located and visited the birthplace of your old vehicle?

I visited Swallow Road, Coventry without any prevous arrangement but wasn't allowed in so never got to see the famous entrance door. Sad

Once owned a Morgan series 1, 4 seater, 4/4..so had to make a trip to visit the Morgan factory.

The Dellow Register visit Alvechurch, & environs every year or so....although the factory itself is not longer visible. A good weekend, all in all.

I did once say at a Riley gathering that I wanted to keep my '54 RME strictly authentic so would be taking it to Abingdon where it was made to pump up the tyres so that the air would be to original specification. The sad thing was, some of those present believed me...

Some years ago had the chance to attend a Vauxhall "Family Fun Day" at Ellesmere Port, where my car was built back in 1974. Nice to take it back home for the day, and lovely weather with it.

All the factory was open to wander around, with the exception of the paint shop, and it was much more interesting than I was expecting it to be.

About 20 years ago, as a lucky owner of a Bimota DB2 motorcycle, I was invited to Italy to visit the factory, followed by a track day at Misano where we were able to test the latest models....

And here I am adjusting my chin strap, just about to try out the SB8R.

Cheers Steve

I've done Morgans and Rolls-Royce before it was sold.

Hi Rich,

Yes and no. That is the door that William Lyons used to access his office at SS Cars Ltd and it did exist until fairly recently but has now been removed. I can't remember whether it is at Gaydon or simply in the JDHT collection.

The car in the photo was awaiting delivery to Prince Michael of Romania. He also bought an SS100 at the same time. (December 1937)

I have owned lots of Fords and grew up not far from the Dagenham factory, which I was able to visit a couple of times. It was absolutely massive and quite awe inspiring!
