A bit newer than that, but I remember "Fast Lane" magazine from the eighties and perhaps early nineties. Also there was "Performance Car" which ended more recently. "Restoring Classic Cars" was another that had good intentions but didn't last the distance. |

No, unfortunately this slim but serious publication has long gone. The mantle was assumed by " The Automobile".
I have a complete collection (since 1983?) from Vol. 1 No.1. but I have stopped collecting them since a change in format make the text more difficult for me to read. I am also unhappy that in attempt to widen their readership there has been an acceptance of hot rods which had hitherto been eschewed.
I am considering selling the collection which amounts to several hundred copies of The Automobile" but I don't quite know how best to do it or what it could be worth. I have seen copies offered individually on Ebay but I can't really be bothered with all that.
Condition is good but there are no folders. |

I used to take those in the sixties. They were good if I remember correctly.

I have a full set of "historic race and rally". A rather good quality magazine which started in 1992. It came out every other month, but for only a year. So my full set is just 6 magazines. Lots of good articles and period advertising.
Quite a few on e-bay. |

I used to collect "On Four Wheels". There is a great stash of them around here somewhere. Any one remember that one? |

I've got a couple of copies of that, with stuff that's related to my interests. I bought them second hand, so I don't recall it when it was "new". |

I thought Jalopy was brilliant - the antidote to motoring magazines. Remember their sport correspondent Mirling Stoss? |

I have a collection of the 'Practical Motorist' magazines dated from September 1938 to late 1939 and then some from the mid'50's. I also have on loan, issues number 1 to issue 34.
They are a great read and they provide me with much information about the car accessory market which I write about (Join the Uxbridge CVS or the East Anglian Practical Classics or the Suffolk Vehicle Enthusiasts Club and read them...).
If anyone on the OCC has copies of the 'Practical Motorist' they do not want email me at roger952brown@hotmail.co.uk
As an OAP I can pay for postage......

Me too, I used to read the print off those. Once won something, no idea what, for "tip of the month" or similar. It was about the rear brake adjusters on the Minis. Unscrew the adjuster and insert a piece of rubber hose between the back plate and that little bar that went across the back plate. Put grease into the tube and refit the adjuster. No more rusty, dirt filled and seized adjusters
