Evening all,
I've just been reading about someone who has a collection of Moggy 1000s.
I no longer own more than one example of any particular vehicle, but I did go through a phase of multiple E83W & A40 Devon ownership years ago.
Do you stick to no more than one of a particular model of car, or have you got a number of very similar cars? Even if you could own more than one of your car, would you want to?

Well, I don't know if this counts but I own two Series Land Rovers as well as a Land Rover Defender TD5 110 County Pick Up.
I bought a Series One 86" a few years ago to add to the 1962 Series 2a 88" I have owned since April 2005. The Series One is a restoration project albeit a good solid one to start with.
I'm not the only one around here with more than one Land Rover, several owners have three or more examples of various Series. One has a 1949 Series One 80", a 1952 Series One 80", a 1955 Series One 86" a 1957 Series One 107"and a Series 2 88" from 1959.
A retired architect I know has a passion for Volkswagen Beetles. He owns a 1200, 1300, 1500 and a 1972 Camper and he uses all of them in rotation.
I have heard of one wealthy collector of Mark One RS Ford Escorts. He has, I believe: a Mexico, RS2000, RS1600 as well as various Mark 2 RS Escorts and an RS Sierra Cosworth 500 with delivery miles.
I wonder if owns the Holy Grail of Mark 2 RS Ford Escorts - the ultra rare RS1800.

I had several Model A Fords, many years ago, then a break from historic cars for about ten years. Then I took a deep interest in the Rover marque, acquiring an SD1, 1959 90, several P6's in quick succession. After a while, I decided to concentrate on the P4's although I still have the SD1 for longer trips and ones including city driving, as the automatic transmission makes life easier.
Currently the operational fleet consist of the SD1, the first acquired P4 90 and a 1950 P4 75. I do hope to get my 1951 75 on the road eventually. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Two mk1 Minis. A 67 "Cooper" (at least that's what the badge says!) that's my daily drive when I'm not in the van, and a 61 850 that I may reluctantly have to part with as it's not getting enough use. |

I seem to have acquired two Riley One-Point-Fives though that was never my intention. The second was a spur of the moment purchase that seemed too good to miss - one day it'll all be put back together... _________________ David

I did have two Sportshatches twice, first of all many years ago when I'd first acquired the second one, and then again for a short time when the first one came back to me after a few years in Wales. 1% of total production. |

Being a bit of a hoarder
I went around our little valley collecting all the goodies I could find and most people were glad to see the out of their yards.
It is also handy having 13 acres away from everybody
So for VWs we have 15 -bugs-split window busses,(single cab- Double cab- panels- Deluxe 23 window) and 2 Ghia's- 2 Notchbacks
Volvos 8 122-240-740-850
Audi only 2
Citroen 2 ID 21
only one 1948 Thames e83w
3 International Harvester trucks 1956 and 1972-1984 Dump Truck
less that half run and but good trading material

It is true that when you have and use a classic you will be more "open" for other examples. Often these would seem good value compared to your own car, so if you have the space and money why not buy it
More of the same brings no extra joy I think, better to have several different cars if you have the space, time and money.
When I drove my Herald 1200, someone said he knew a 13/60 for sale so that was quickly bought. And passed on to someone else a year later.
But usually I managed to keep just one example of a car type. I have owned several Imps but always just one on the road. Same for Citroën CX.
I searched for a Jensen Interceptor Mk1 years ago but could not find a LHD so went for a RHD. Then barely a year later my brother heard of a LHD example for sale and he bought that. I wished I had found that example. Years later, nothing was done on the LHD car and now I have acquired it from him, owning two Interceptors. One, the RHD car, will be sold in the future.
Someone I know has a passion for Rover 800 - he owns about 7 or 8, all in immaculate condition. Not something I would want. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

I never set out to own more than one example, but over the years I invariably end up with several all the same! Perhaps the 'worst' case was back in the 1980s when at one time I had eight Herald coupes; this photo shows four of them with two more in the garage and one up the drive in daily use. Another one arrived shortly afterwards :
Some were bought because they were better examples than those I already had, others just to save them from the scrapyard ... _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Cars for breaking apart we/I have had since the mid 70's more than one of a particular model on the road at the same time and still do with a S2 and a S3 SWB Land Rover and a P5 Coupe and P5B saloon. In the past we have had 3 concurrent P5's, the Arrow Hillman Hunter DL and Humber Sceptre Mk3 saloons, a Mini Traveller and Mini saloon and a couple of Auto Union DKW 1000's in the mid-1970's _________________ Rover P2

I will most likely not get to restoring all of them but it is nice to have a lot of spare parts for the ones we do rebuild
Most likely they would have been crushed by now and come back as Chinese toys
