Hi! I'm hoping someone here can come up with a suggestion to help with this car situation we have!

My father in law has a blue jaguar e type (mark 3 or 4 I believe), estimated from the early 70s, that's sitting in his garage in the north of England. He bought it second hand when it was a few years old and it's been in storage ever since.

Many years ago he took the engine apart, intending to put it all back together, but life happened and now the entire engine is sat in his garage in unlabelled parts, and he's realistically never going to put it all back together.

My parents in law want to move, but can't do that when there's a massive immovable car sitting in the garage! He's not super into the internet so I'm trying to figure out from people who know what they're doing, what the best option for him would be with it.

Whilst all the parts are there it will need to be totally rebuilt by someone knowledgable as a project, so it's definitely never going to be saleable through a standard car website.

Where would be the best place to find a home or owner looking to fix it up? And is there any way to find out what an appropriate valuation would be? I'm totally clueless of how to go about organising anything for him. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me!

[Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the car because we're not in the same location, but my understanding is that apart from the engine being in pieces it's in pretty good condition!)

Hi,

To be honest I'd speak with a few of the proper auction houses (not ebay), they're used to selling this kind of thing (complete and also project cars). Pick up one of the glossy mags at the newsagents and you find full-page adverts for several of them.

Id agree with that.There will be all sorts of messing about with ebay,a proper auction house can advise and help with transport etc and handle all aspects of the sale.There is also no possibility of being messed about with buyers who dont pay or make unreasonable demands before or after the sale.

If it is from the 70s it's a V12 S3. I'd advised H&H because they have a good track record and their commission is lower than the big boys. Also Anglia Auctions who are building a good reputation. Value will depend on condition of course but if it has sat for so long don't clean it! That dust adds value these days.

Get on the phone quickly to that "Car S.O.S." television programme. Not only will they rebuild but in doing so it will be of your hands while they do it. SIMPLES.
