Which make and model of car is this in the foreground?

Not an easy one but I can tell you that the image is not a photoshop exercise but a true image from a Kodak Brownie 127 camera. No editing, cropping or enhancing. What you see is what was photographed.

The car was my cousins's 18th birthday present in May 1963 when the photo was taken. The car was 12 months old and had been bought from a franchised dealer with three months guarantee, not that it was needed or claimed on.

Not that it will help you, though, the gentleman standing behind the car is my uncle, the late Mr W E Thomas, a successful farmer. The cigarette he is smoking is a Kensitas, a 20 pack had double the coupons (10) of Embassy or Players No6.
Some of the coupons "bought" the family a Phillips reel to reel tape recorder, an electric kettle and more.

From what little you have to see, good luck.[/img]

Aren't the chrome surrounds too thick for a Super Minx?

Looks like a 105e Anglia but the wing mirror is a bit flash. Surely not a Cresta/Velox PA for an 18 year old's first car?

52classic and IC. Very well done!

Correct.

Yes, a Ford Anglia 105E in the same colours as the one in the image above.
The only difference between my cousin's car and this one is/are the wing mirrors.

The registration number of my cousin Glenda's car was JEY 436 and it was a 1962 model DeLux 997cc with optional two tone paint. It was 12 months old when it was bought as her 18th birthday present. It served her well until October 1967 when she, newly married, bought a new facelifted VW Beetle 1300cc in it's place. A decision she and her husband were to regret.

It [/img]was a difficult "spot" given the photo.
I owned a 1964 997cc DeLux myself for nearly five years and I still consider a 105E Ford Anglia a fine car.

Thank you all for taking part.

That's embarrassing! I jointly owned one and drove it up and down Norway.

My first car was a 105e basic (no wide grille) ADR160A, must have been a Christmas present originally as it was registered 24/12/63. Also had an Anglia 1200 reg. UFX 711. I really like them, I'd def have another.

A final few words on this subject.

Although bought as a car for my cousin, Glenda, her parents were so taken by the Anglia that they often used it themselves in preference to their own car, a black Austin A55 Cambridge and in 1965 a new Wolseley 16/60 DEY 88C.

Twelve months after buying the Anglia my uncle bought a new Thames 307E Van 7cwt in 1964 . Registered PEY 14 in white it had the shiny mesh grille and a heater it was used as the farm runabout until it's engine expired in about 1973 despite a total mileage of less than 30k.

As is the way of many farmers the van was stored in a redundant stock shed for years afterwards.

My first 4 wheeled car (After Berkeley T60) was a 105e. YLA434. Can't comment on the performance because mine had a concrete floor - Seemed to me the most expedient way to get it through the MOT!

Proof that cars last longer these days, the Anglia was barely 10 years old terminally rusty. A posts, door bottoms, spring hangers etc.
