I have a policy with Autoaid.

As a result of being a dilatory fool, I allowed it to auto renew.
It's now over 80 quid, a lot on a limited pension...Plus, I haven't used it in years now.
I also noted that they had inserted an age limit on vehicles they attend, so I emailed them demanding cessation of my newly acquired policy, because I have either no intention of, or being able to afford to, obtain a much newer vehicle!
So their policy no longer fulfilled my needs, through no fault of mine!
I had always had the same, now 21 year old, vehicle .
I have now received an email informing me that my policy now has an add-on clause allowing me to have cover on ''any age of vehicle''....
I think I still have to find ?25 to pay the driver if I ever break down...in my old Suzuki GV....which I never used to have to do.

What peaves me more is that, on doing a bit of research, I find that the Autoaid sister operation do the vehicle-specific recovery section
Used to be all one, with a choice of vehicle, or policyholder, having the cover.
For my vehicle {age irrelevant } it would cost me under ?30 for recovery cover.....

I am considering whether to suck up the ?15 admin charge to cancel my policy, and take our their vehicle-specific cover instead?

I had policyholder cover originally because I had more than two daily drivers.....each used for a brief spell of time, so I had personal cover instead.

In fact, over the years, I have recovered more vehicles for friends & neighbours than have needed it myself...

Also, I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty & oily, but nowadays struggle to stand up from the kneeling or laying down position...

Well, we're all getting over colds here and with the weather set to rain I thought I'd spend the day clearing the garage with a view to getting the 1947 Minx out of storage. She hasn't been on the road in years and tbh I haven't started her in 3-4 years now.

It's also very awkward as she is facing into the garage and the Hillman alligator bonnet needs quite a bit of room to open fully and at present I can't do that. The plan is to today, get her started and turn her round.

Well I spent and hour or two decluttering to give space to move her, then I pushed her out a couple feet so I could open the bonnet. I charged a battery, hand primed her for fuel and checked the oil and water...once the battery was connected I gave her full choke and on her first pull of the started she fired into life, all be it stodgily.

I managed to get her out onto the driveway where I could then pump all the tyres up and I also removed all the hubcaps to check wheel nut tightness. I turned her around and then just as a large downpour started I reversed her back into the garage.

My plan I think is to insure her for the summer and now with my commute only being about 25 mins across the Somerset levels it might be nice to drive her in on sunny days.

I finally got serious about repairing the Chrysler. I bought a brand new 6 volt coil and a second hand Stromberg OE-1 carby from the Veteran Car Club of WA spares shed.
I washed the carby out with petrol and plenty of air, before fitting it, without touching the idling and main jets (both adjustable). The car started first time and ran well! Not bad for a 100 year old carby that has probably been off a car for decades!
I'm a happy boy again.

Its weird being the same age as old people.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution

I'm still trying to replace rusty steel, holes and "repair panels" made out of what seems to be old oil cans (because of the thickness, or lack thereof, not because there are green and orange lines on them) with actual steel around the rear trailing arm mounts on my project car.
