I have the cylinder head removed from my iron block side valve engine.
Before I put the lid back on I was thinking about filling the coolant gallery with a rust remover to try and remove many decades of rust. Maybe phosphoric acid or something like this:

which is available on ebay.
Any thoughts?

I have been investigating Evaporust and it looks like the product you want is something they make called "Thermocure". It is a coolant system flush which from reviews I have read seems to work much better than other flushing products on the market. I haven't tried Evaporust Thermocure myself yet but I may well give it a go because it seems to be a good product.
It is available from Frost but it can also also be found on Amazon.
NOTE: If it turns out that the C715 Thermocure is exactly the same as the original C700 Evaporust then it is much more expensive for the same thing in a different container. They are probably different products but I just don't know for sure. |

As an aside.has anyone tried any of the domestic central heating cleaners in a vehicle cooling system, to de-scale, de-sludge, etc?
For example, Fernox F3 or F5?
{I'm thinking about the multitude of different metals...as found in domestic central heating systems, may be relevant to old vehicles as well?} |

I have heard Dishwasher tabs are good but not convinced as to their effect on alloy components eg pump case, head and intake/outlet pipes. I have used hot Vinegar - neat which clears scale well _________________ Rover P2
