I'll probably go down the route of sourcing some later backplates at some point then, I did the same with the MM and fitted Series II plates to that which made life a lot easier (albeit for different reasons to now).
A small box of new goodies turned up the other day, so I spent this afternoon underneath the front end fitting new wheel cylinders. All being well I'll get on with bleeding them tomorrow. I also got in a new pair of track rods and bushes for the anti-roll bar links, as they're also looking somewhat secondhand.

Going back to the tax discs...the Y11802 is the pre-74 registration. Y is the county Västernorrlands. Post 73 all cars had to adopt the 3 letter 3 numbers.
I think the last disc is a crossover displaying the old and the new registrations.
Sweden changed their plates again in 2018 so as not to run out of “numbers” _________________ Alistair

More miles have been piled onto the PV, and the list of fiddly little jobs outstanding continues to edge closer to the bottom of the page. No great shakes, but jobs like a good greasing, Waxoyling (other brands are available), and maybe a test run on radials as opposed to crossplies, are just some of the thoughts milling around in my head right now. Also, the central exhaust mount isn't the best and is resonating at certain speeds.

I hope that you had the engine switched off on your second shot....check the oil gauge!
Looking good though. I am just psyching myself up to do the rear springs on the 544. I had intended to do them last year, but just drove it instead. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

The gritters have been about here as well over the last couple of days. Probably limits the scope for driving one's classic now. Seems a bit excessive, only a couple fo very light frosts in evidence. I can understand it on some of the very high level moorland roads, but in a relatively sheltered area like this, why bother.
Next thing, they will be complaining that they have run out before Spring.
Car is looking good. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

In fairness the paint isn't too pretty close in, but it was bought to use so, meh. Ploughing through a particularly deep puddle in it the other day raised a few eyebrows with others who were pontificating about trying their luck. There's still a modern BMW sat in a layby, where it had been dragged to after packing up in the middle of this sizeable puddle on Saturday. The other BM that was dumped in front of it has disappeared now.

There was something on Pistonheads about this a couple of years ago. Apparently 5 Series were particularly bad, having low mounted air intakes. Someone quoted his manual as saying that max wading depth for his 3 Series was 25 cm (about 10 inches) at max 3 mph!
The air cleaner intake on my 544 is quite high up and the distributor is probably at risk before water is ingested. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

The letter K refers to the swedish petrol company Koppartrans (1947 - 1963). |
