I wish everyone a happy Christmas and a new year less fraught than this one.
While most folk will be enjoying a break, my wife and I run a licensed boarding cattery which will keep us very busy. |

Its weird being the same age as old people.

I ran out of car related Christmas greeting ideas so you'll just have to put up with my other old technology interest, pre-war television.
Here's George VI giving his Christmas message (even if he never broadcast it on television.)

Peter- such an interesting photo brings back memories. When I were but a wee lad, my folks brought home a T.V. set very similar to that with the mirror in the lid. It was probably in 1947 when I was only 3 years old. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Hi rover;
You must have been living in the SE at the time then, because Ally Pally was the only transmitter then.
Sutton Coldfield started up for the Midlands next in 1949. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

As Far as I am aware, the transmitter was, as you said, Alexander Palace. We lived in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
We left there late 1949 to arrive in Melbourne Australia on the 4th of January 1950. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |
