PRACTICAL CLASSICS CLASSIC CAR AND RESTORATION SHOW UNVEILS BRAND NEW INTERACTIVE FEATURE – CLASSIC WORLD
The organisers of the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery, have unveiled ‘Classic World’, an exciting new interactive feature that will debut at the three-day event held 27-29 March at Birmingham’s NEC.
Classic World brings together all the elements of owning a classic vehicle including the actual driving, and allows the audience to take a journey of discovery across four key areas – Work in Progress, Staff Car Sagas, Barn Finds Revisited, and the Classic World Stage (all you need to know about everything important).
Event Director Lee Masters explains: “We are all very excited about what this new feature brings to the show. We’ve always championed live working to educate as well as entertain the visitors but this takes it to a whole new level.
“The audience will be at the centre of the Classic World. Surrounding them will be project cars currently being worked on with live demonstrations of some of the key tasks and a chance for the audience to get the advice they need for their own restoration.
“There’s also freshly restored cars previously seen on the Barn Find display, and those classics that need regular care and maintenance to keep them going. None of these exhibits are static and are best seen when driving, so they will take to the Classic World roadway so the audience can see and hear them brought back to life.
“Bringing this altogether, is the Classic World stage where you can find all you need to know about everything important about owning a classic vehicle. Rather than just have a live stage with interviews and guests, we want to encourage two-way conversation and some healthy debate about the classic motoring community. The audience will have the opportunity to give their opinions both visually and vocally. It will bring a really different element to the show.”
The stage will also welcome interviews and insightful seminars with special guests such as TV motoring restorers Ant Anstead from Wheeler Dealers, Car SOS’ Fuzz Townshend, and Jimmy De Ville from Goblin Works Garage and Fifth Gear. There will also be some hot topics discussed including the skills shortage and the ‘dying arts’ of classic restoration, electrification, restoration versus preservation, the future of fuel, MoT exemption, Smart Motorways, and that age-old question – what’s a classic?
There will also be the opportunity for the public to get involved as each day will see six classic car owners invited to show off their car and drive it on the Classic World roadway.
The show also boasts the UK’s biggest display of barn finds in the Carole Nash Barn Find display, over 150 classic motoring clubs, live restorations, The Workshop demonstration theatre, over 250 specialist traders and spring’s biggest indoor autojumble.
Plus, there are more features including the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership, Classic Car Auctions’ two-day sale, Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides and the final of the Lancaster Insurance Restorer of the Year for enthusiasts to enjoy.
The Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show, with Discovery, is held 27-29 March 2020 at Birmingham’s NEC with tickets now on sale. For more information as well as the ticket prices and booking details, visit www.necrestorationshow.com _________________ Rick - Admin

FBHVC SKILLS ZONE LAUNCHED AT PRACTICAL CLASSICS CLASSIC CAR AND RESTORATION SHOW.
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) will introduce its brand-new Skills Zone at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery, held 27-29 March at Birmingham’s NEC.
The FBHVC has been supporting the classic car movement for decades but is excited to launch this new initiative. Alongside the Federation’s traditional core activities such as heritage, research and legislation, the FBHVC Skills Zone will deliver help and advice on the practical aspects of classic car ownership.
Bringing together Federation partners and businesses with practical workshop demonstrations, the FBHVC Skills Zone will feature training sessions led by the Heritage Skills Academy Training Director, Steve Beaumont.
Visitors to the FBHVC stand will be able to enjoy a series of ten-minute tutorials followed by 20 minutes of hands-on experience. Dealing with subjects important to anyone involved in the maintenance or restoration of classic vehicles, the sessions will cover aspects such as tyres and electrical fault-finding.
But just as fascinating will be the demonstrations of restoration skills. Delivered by FBHVC partners, these include a fascinating look at vehicle trimming. The resident trimmer at Bicester Heritage, Harry Fraser Vehicle Upholstery, will show how restorers can achieve perfect results with their own classic. Harry will not only be bringing along a re-trimmed Austin 7 but visitors will be able to watch him at work, too.
Specialists Clement & Boggis will also be on hand to demonstrate the art of ‘wheeling’ which, as many classic car enthusiasts will know, involves the skilled use of an English Wheel to form body panels and repair sections.
King Dick Tools will also be delivering a session guaranteed to be of interest to anyone working on classic vehicles. In existence since 1856 and the only spanner manufacturer in the UK, Managing Director Griff Roberts will be giving a talk on choosing the right tools for a job and how to use them correctly.
An undoubted star of the FBHVC stand will be the Alvis TC21 recently acquired by the Federation’s Research Director, Paul Chasney. Visitors to the show will be able to vote for whether the car is preserved or subjected to a restoration. The Alvis will be joined on the stand by an early Citroen 2CV and a racing VW Beetle.
The FBHVC Skills Zone represents an exciting new addition to the Federation’s activities and reinforces its commitment to promoting and preserving Britain’s classic vehicle heritage. Visitors are encouraged to head along to the stand in Hall 5 to enjoy everything it has to offer and to show their support. _________________ Rick - Admin

PRACTICAL CLASSICS CLASSIC CAR AND RESTORATION SHOW, WITH DISCOVERY, POSTPONED TO 2021 DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 outing of the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with Discovery, is now postponed until 26-28 March 2021. The organisers had hoped to run the event this August but with restrictions still in place, it is no longer possible.
Show Director Lee Masters said: “Everyone involved in putting the show together is extremely disappointed that we can’t go ahead in August. However, the health and well-being of our visitors, exhibitors, partners, contractors and staff is of the upmost importance. With the government’s roadmap suggesting that restrictions on movement will still be in place for some time, it is therefore the right decision for us to cease planning for an event of this size and importance in August.
“We will now be putting all our efforts into delivering an extra special restoration show in 2021 and a fantastic meeting of the community for our flagship event, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, in November.
“Clarion Events is working with other event organisers, venues and government to develop guidelines on how to deliver the best versions of our events while ensuring the health and safety of all involved. We will update you further on the measures we are putting in place in due course.
“We’d like to thank all of our visitors, partners, traders and car clubs for their continued patience and support during these challanging and unprecedented times.”
Tickets already purchased for the original dates of 27-29 March will be valid for the rescheduled dates with bookings automatically carried over to the same day next year. Plus, as a thank you for continuing to support the show, an additional adult ticket will be added free of charge to the booking (terms and conditions apply – see website for details).
Alternatively, ticket holders have the option to transfer their tickets to November 2020’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, or February 2021’s Reis Race Retro. To transfer tickets, please contact practicalclassicsshow@seetickets.com before 1 September 2020.
All exhibitor and trader stand bookings will be automatically transferred to the new dateline. Exhibitors with specific questions please contact the sales team directly.
Car Clubs with stands currently confirmed for the 2020 event will receive an offer of space at the 2021 edition. Clubs with specific questions please contact Car Club Co-ordinator Alison Judge. _________________ Rick - Admin
