My mate has this front wing in his workshop. It's been there for ages, he was given it when a neighbouring workshop closed down in 1973 and hasn't got around to doing anything with it.

Does anyone know what it's from? It appears to be made in several pieces as there is a weld along the centre of the wing front to rear, and one across behind the centre. The vertical inner shield part is spot welded to the main wing body.

No holes for headlamp or sidelamp mounts.

Nor holes for bumper mounting irons either.

If that weld running fore and aft isn't a feature of the wing's styling, like a swaged raised moulding might be, I wonder if it's something that was made by a gifted metal worker for a particular purpose, as a one-off, rather than being something factory-made in large numbers.

Would a factory-made wing be made in several pieces and welded up, or pressed in one go?

Pre 60's original factory wings were often made up in several pieces ...

Things that strike me are:

1. It looks large and wide suggesting a commercial vehicle.

2. The lack of mounting holes for lamps suggests, as others have said, a one off rather than a mass produced item.

3. If it is a mass produced item then that narrows the field considerably because the headlamps must have been mounted on the sides of the radiator.

My guess is a commercial vehicle from the late 1930s. Depending on size, something like an Austin K2, or on a smaller scale a 10cwt Morris Series 2?

I think it may be commercial but not sure which.

The Austin range K2 / K4 have a distinct front lip, the Commer Q range have holes for the bumper and sidelights, again the Bedford K / O types have the front lip that shapes into the bumper, the Dodge Kew pre-war early postwar also has the lip.

It may be something really obscure.

If it were a car I did wonder at first whether it was Vauxhall like, with headlamps mounted from the grill but again no holes for the bumper irons.

I think it looks like a Vauxhall J or H type front wing or their commercial equivalent?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've had a quick look at some images for various things, it does look similar to the Vauxhall J or H albeit without the hole for the sidelight, which may be added when it gets on the car.

As I type this I note that it's not that far away in shape from the wing in the left photo on the site banner, either, but then a lot of wings of this style look quite similar to me.
