I know I’m perhaps in the minority here but for me this could be a good thing. I’m not really the ‘show’ type - I rarely attend them and for me drive it day had turned into a ‘ drive to a show day’ . This will hopefully mean old cars will be driven about more on the day. _________________ Hillman minx convertible. Lanchester LD 10 |

We think very much alike Minxy. I have been too busy with other things recently to take the Swallow out but I will dust her off and go for a tootle around the district. It can be a bit of a challenge with some of the hills around here and some roads are poorly maintained which causes bump steer but I still get pleasure from it. |

I think if we are still fit and well we will take the Hillman out for a drive round the village or maybe venture into Wells but of course not get out the car. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I'll be staying at home and not making a non-essential car journey on Drive It Day or any other day.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of extra cars on the road is the last thing the country needs on April 26th when the virus will have a much greater grip and emergency services and NHS will be even more stretched than they are today. _________________ David

I think so long as you stay in your car and not get out to chat with people it should be O.K.
The potential problem areas are petrol stations but if you practise sensible 'social distancing' there should not be a problem. I would make sure I had a mobile phone on me and my wife knew my route so if need be (not likely) she can come out with a tow rope. |

I think a lock down is looking more and more likely Rick, more so after seeing photos and reading reports of people completely ignoring current advice.
A friend in northern France tells me it's the same there even though they are in the middle of a lock down. One youth has been jailed as an example to others after going out because, quote, "I'm young and the rules don't apply to me." _________________ David

Agree a lock down is almost inevitable. _________________ Hillman minx convertible. Lanchester LD 10 |

I read the other day [BBC News report] after the daily PM's briefing, that Police already [now?] have emergency powers to enforce self isolation if someone is discovered out & about, potentially showing symptoms of coronavirus.
I suspect we'll see over-60's being tasered in the streets soon?
There is nothing to prevent us using our old motors to conduct essential journeys..shopping, etc.
Petrol will still have to be obtained....but won't be any different [in terms of isolation] than going to a shop for food.
I can hear, right now, the more 'major' road near where I live, packed with bikers out for a sunny day's ride.
Many are still expected to work....
Mass Covid testing is going to be like the MoT......fine at the time of test, but 10 minutes later, one could be unroadworthy.
We really must learn to be more unsociable!! _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

The over-60s (or over-70s) are not more dangerous to the rest of the public; they may be more vulnerable to a more serious attack, but they are no more, or less, prone to distributing the virus. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Yes, we know that...but they are currently the 'targeted' group.... _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

Interestingly, apparently the average age of the Covid deaths in Italy is 79.5 years.
