I have always been fascinated and drawn to rarer vehicles. I am not belittling cars that have survived in larger numbers but I do very much like finding and and restoring something unusual.
So, just recently I was asked if I knew much about a rare Commer truck. I have spent the last week or so researching the model and yesterday I was told that there is a sole survivor in unrestored, rough condition.
You can imagine my thoughts...do I enquire further as to where it is and if it would be available?? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Of course you should do that!
Just hope that the current owner is realistic with the asking price because rare does not automatically mean valuable. That may (only?) be the case for rare versions of popular classics, flat floor E-types comes to mind. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

If you have the space then go for it. As a buyer of a derelict Commercial you are probably also quite rare; something I think I would press home with the owner. I would emphasis to the seller (if they want to sell) that there is no profit to be made from restoring it.
Best of luck.
(On a different make, what I want to know is: where have all the low mileage ex Army Bedford RLs gone? They seem never to come up for sale but thousands were sold off.) |

I do think that I will follow this up, it may not get anywhere but its worth asking the question.
I dont know about anyone else on here but after what we have gone through in the last few months we have sort have said to ourselves life is for living and why not push the boundaries sometimes?
As for Bedford RL's Ray, we see a lot of Green Goddess Bedfords but very few GS body RL's. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

We sing from the same hymn sheet I think. What era is it from?
I saw an ad for an RL on ebay a few days ago, they're about but not as plentiful as they were.

Prior to the "posh" RL Bedford does anyone remember the QL? As an apprentice we had one as a recovery truck. You could hear the transmission whine form a mile away! |

I think the whine from the QL and MW Bedfords is very nostalgic. One chap we know has a QL with the radio body, its quite a big truck. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Our recovery truck was originally a radio truck, but we took the body off a scrap Karrier Spider recovery. The only snag was the Spider was a foot longer, so the wheel arches didn't match the wheels! |

Its interesting how many wartime trucks were converted to recovery vehicles.
My father was an apprentice in a garage in Wells, Somerset, he has often told stories of the wartime Dodge that they had as a tow truck. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I don't suppose he took any photos??
If it was RHD then it'd be a Canadian Dodge (D16 or D15 if it had a similar front to mine). If it was LHD then it'd be American.

Had any more thoughts on the discovery you've heard of?
