Anyone who is that interested will probably already know as much as they need to know.
Just one reason that I tend to avoid non club events. The Public are not really interested in old cars but visiting a show passes the time and gives the kids something to climb on.  |

When I have my car on display at a show, I have a piece of A4 in the windscreen describing some of its features. The only thing this product seems to do is to make it impossible for anyone without a smartphone (with a data contract) to find anything out. I know they talk about it being "better" than the A4 sheet, but I wonder how many people will sign up if they can't be bothered printing a sheet out?
I'd have thought it might be better to do one with number-plate recognition so you can take a photo of a passing car and find out what it was. Of course, when the car is parked at a show, you can just ask the owner. Sharing restoration videos I guess is a nice feature, if you're into that kind of thing. |

Given the choice between that and my fake 1939 disc I would opt for the fake. I'm certainly not displaying two discs.

I really like those repro tax discs. Mine was dated 1930 for my dear "trundles" and it came with two spares so I gave one to my neighbour for his Alvis. He didn't even know you could get them so it made his day! |

It is one of my frustrations with car shows that a certain number of people bring in their cars and then clear off and leave them unattended and with no details, for several hours, often returning (probably after after having had lunch nearby) and leaving the show early with their cars.
Effectively they have received free admission and parking and have contributed next to nothing.
I don't agree with Ray White's dismissal of non club events. The classic car movement needs desperately to attract younger members if it isn't to wither and die in the longer term. There is a need to show what is possible (and affordable) to a wider audience and to make sure that it isn't seen as a closed shop. Unless we get a wider range of age groups (ie: younger) into classics, then we will eventually become perceived as even more of an eccentric minority of batty old men with equally batty old cars, and we will be legislated off the road!

I have an information board that I prop-up in front of the car but on several occasions I have almost driven off forgetting that it was there!

It reminds me of various software packages that were put together years ago, for people to catalogue expenditure on their restorations and so on. The market was pretty small for that, and I think it'll be the same with the discs to be honest.

In my case, my biro ran dry long before I got anywhere near completing a restoration....

I was thinking the same thing, despite my earlier negativity. As I have a thread covering my restoration already, I was thinking that when I do a new sheet for the window, I might generate a free QR Code to point to it. |

I am guilty as charged. Indeed, all those people who wish to show their cars to the general public deserve praise for encouraging the younger generation; few of whom seem to be interested in old cars at all. |

Yes, it assumes that people have mobile data turned on and if not then it lacks the immediacy of a board.

That will be me then!.....and I make no apologies other than to respect your opinion.
I am not especially a people person and as such find small talk tedious at best. On the very rare occasion I attend a show I put a small (A4) framed brief synopsis of my car on the windscreen, I then go get a coffee and sit elsewhere for an hour, have a brief wander and then go home.
No right or wrong here as I know some folk clearly enjoy making a day of it and sitting round in social groups ( remember when one could do that). If folk are that interested in my cars then they can look up information later or, with current technology, Google it there and then.

Firstly I do like to stay with the car when I am at shows as I do like to interact with people and talk face to face.
We go to a lot of shows where owners turn up, lock the cars up and go off and you dont see them till they decide to go home and in agreement with an earlier comment that is normally early leaving!
I do however think it could be a good idea when it covers something such as a ground up restoration. My Commer restoration for example has hundreds of photos taken but I simply could not display these sensibly. So for that it would be useful.
