I thought this thread could be used to draw attention to interesting restorations out there, not related to cars.

the lct was featured on one of those usa made docs about ships recently,
sadly these sort of ships rarely live long enough to survive any war.
bovington tank museum had a diorama in the entrance many years ago showing an lct4 landing craft for a possible outside exhibition, how thet were going to get it there was not specified but it never materialised.

I am very interested in wartime Royal Navy and have been following the LCT project, its so important to preserve things like this.

There are a few wartime RAF and Naval launches under restoration at the moment.

I see similarities between restoring a WW2 Bomber and the current hiatus over statues. It is important that we remember all events of the past; not just the nice bits.

Well said.

Education not Eradication.

It is so important we all learn from the past.

Too true.

Not something the protesters like to acknowledge.

Hi
Let's hope they don't start on statues of Roman Emperors.

........ when Rick first started this Forum, no one would have ever imagined statues being a contentious subject. Perhaps it shouldn't be one now.

I think the consensus here is that statues shouldn't be contentious. There is a fine statue of Henry Royce here in Derby. We don't have hordes of low paid people trying to tear it down because he made motor cars for the enormously wealthy.

Anyway, back to restorations.

Attempts to raise funds for work required on the Burnley Empire theatre, following numerous break-ins and vandalism:

Not good news for the LCT restoration.

I believe one of the Somerset councils has a formal policy to refurbish & re-use traditional sign-posts wherever possible. Most commendable.
A drive around the country lanes of West Somerset, even on Google Earth, will reveal several examples including a couple of the early 'pointing-hand' style.

There was another council a few years back that, by practical experiment, found that wooden signposts were both cheaper and longer lasting than the modern steel variety, though I don't know if anything came of it long term. I forget now where it was, though I have a feeling it may have been Wiltshire.
