I thought Boris might think if Putin can do it ...so can he. Maybe we could invade the USA and Africa while we are at it.

What Putin is doing is about as ridiculous...but he can't see it. Rolling Eyes

I am afraid Putin has the same mental disease as Hitler and until someone bumps him off he won't be cured.
The yanks will just sit and watch as they did in WW2, until they were attacked.

I live in the US.
The US is providing billions of dollars to support Ukraine along with re-inforcing nearby US troops. It is not 'just watching'.

Anyway, enough of all that.
The other day when I was having some fuel problems I removed the AC mechanical pump (turned out it wasn't the pump that was causing the problems).
I found that the brass pipe union hexagon nut was badly rounded which would cause trouble if I had to remove it again.
Yesterday I made a quick trip to the plumbers suppliers for a couple of 8mm straight connectors. I removed and replaced the last few cm's of copper and re made the end . 8mm is near enough to 5/16" to make no difference.
Quick and easy repair.

Mike. I hope it works O.K. and not wishing to cast doubts but when I tried doing that I found the 8mm olives a bit too big for the 5/616" pipe. I changed the olives to fit the pipe with the metric fitting.

It's worked well. 5/16 is about 0.0025" smaller than 8mm.
I found the rings easily compressed and bite into the tube nicely to make a leak free joint.

Sounds good. The main thing is you fixed it. Wink

It's probably a matter of luck, with pipe and olives from some suppliers being a little softer than those from other suppliers.

Given the acceptable tolerance of copper pipe/tube I can’t believe it would make a difference whether a 8mm or 5/16” olive was used.

I tried using 8mm olives on a 5/16" petrol pipe and it leaked. Fortunately I found some Imperial olives and they sealed it. That's why I raised the question.

Just glad to hear it worked out O.K.

Nice to see that:
1. the pump has a priming lever
2. a pull ring has been added to that, so the person would not need to dive to deep to prime.

My TR4 has the same pump (I think) but without the pull ring

Yes, I had a new old stock lower pump body and lever complete with the pull ring.
I fitted it last weekend when I took the pump off.
Unfortunately the first time I pulled on it it pulled off!
The end of the pull ring rod was just flattened a bit on the end to stop it coming off and it just pulled through immediately.
The solution was to thread the rod and loctite a small nut on the end.

I haven't tried it, but I imagine if you hold the lever up with the engine running it will run the carburettor dry. Which would be useful if you want to take the float bowl off and avoid smelly spillages.

Today I fancied visiting Brooklands museum. It was quite hot and I didn't enjoy driving on the M25, especially where there was no hard shoulder and the signs flashed up "queue ahead". Any way it all went ok and the temperature never went over 83C which is when my electric fans starts.
The following may be of interest;
This last year and a bit Ive been recording my fuel consumption. I do this on all the vehicles Ive owned (no i dont know why either).
This is the result:
I drove 3256.6 miles using E5 petrol and I averaged 32.538 mpg.
Since the recent introduction of E10, I switched to that and have now covered a further 1622.4miles and averaged 32.195 mpg.
Admittedly the second distance isn't as far as the first, but I was surprised at how similar the 2 results are. I was expecting a lot less on the E10. Also, I concede that working out fuel consumption to 3 decimal places is verging on the obsessive.
The distances covered were measured with my satnav. The accuracy of which I have compared against my modern car. The mileometer fitted to the Austin reads fast by about 7% so I ignore that.
Driving today on a longish journey on good straight roads I averaged 39.3 mpg. Maybe a tiny bit more as I overfilled it and spilt some when refilling when I got back.
Ive seen an old Austin advert where they advertise the Somerset (my truck is mechanically a Somerset, albeit slightly less streamlined) as being able to do 40mpg at 40 mph, so I was pleased today as I was cruising at around 50-55mph on the motorway bits.
I dont bother with any additives and just use supermarket fuel.
Time will tell if this is wise.

Looks like the club house is getting a bit of TLC.
