I think the fact of this car being recorded as "Taxed" does not support the argument of the title of this thread.
Even if it is physically possible to drive the vehicle, (which I doubt), I suspect that it is unlikely you would get far before either breaking down or meeting with police-officers.
I am unable to see anything in the seller's description which mentions the vehicles tax status, so it can't be argued that it is being used as an inducement to buy. In fact, to an extent, the seller is implying that it might be useful for the rare parts it contains.
Nice car though. |

I agree, especially as a valid MoT is absolutely no guarantee of roadworthiness, with regards to UK Law.
However, by googling AskMid, one can also see the vehicle has no insurance.
Therefore the registered keeper of the vehicle [or the new owner, as the case may be?] is also in contravention of the continuous insurance regulation.
Even if the RK did go out tonight and acquire insurance that meets the required regulations, they would fall foul of the policy conditions by failing to ensure the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.
Thus, if the VED [tax, if one will?] is truly an issue , why not inform DVLA of the fact the vehicle is currently showing as 'taxed'....yet is not insured?
DVLA would be quick to send out to the RK a notice of prosecution...eg, a fine. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

I'm not sure of the answer, so I'm asking you all. Does a car need to have an MOT to transfer a registration? If it only needs tax, that could be a reason for it being taxed. Some registrations, as we all know, are rather valuable. The seller might just be maximising his profit. The car could not conceivably be considered as driveable. |

DVLA does require an MOT before a registration number can be transferred; having said that, I have seen cars which have had their number removed when they were totally unroadworthy (in one case the 'car' was just a pile of bits) so some people know how to bypass the system. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I don't think that's the case any more - the rules seem to have changed now, though the fifth one might be an issue. From here: https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers/take-private-number-off
Maybe someone might think that there's little chance of it being inspected "in these challenging times".
I did wonder whether the fact that it had a new V5C issued last week might be something to do with the Tax / SORN status (as SORN is forgotten if the owner changed), but I imagine that might result in "untaxed" rather than anything specific. |

Under the required ''continuous insurance'' rules, any vehicle must be insured, if it is recorded as 'taxed.'
A vehicle can carry insurance, and not be taxed.
No vehicle can carry tax without first being insured. If insurance lapses, then the vehicle must be SORNed beforehand.
This is where the Offence is completed. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.
