Progress Report.
Lots and lots of fabricating/welding/filling/sanding going on at he moment. I am trying to spend as much time down the yard as possible now to get things moving quicker.
Welding wise I have finished the passenger door bottom, reskinned that and its now filled and rubbed back. The top of the passenger door surround has been a difficult job as fabricating the curves and fold was tricky. That's also filled and rubbed back now.
The drivers wing has had a lot of repair required, all the sections have been fabricated and welded in and I am pleased with the result.
The cab welding is complete and its at the rubbing down / filling stages now. The welding/fabricating left to do is the bonnet and the lower edges of the rear wings. I will post some photos of the progress. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

We had to have a move around of our shed at the weekend to fit in one of our cars so with the nice weather we had the lorry out in the yard to work on.
All of the welding on the cab is now finished, in the end we have had to work on both front wings, re-skinned the passenger door, rebuilt both of the door apertures and rebuilt the rear cab mounting. The rear wings still need work and the bonnet is in quite a state but the main cab is now complete and we are in the process of filling and rubbing down.
Also, after so long with her standing we were really pleased that only after a few turns with the fuel pumped up she fired and ran quite nicely so moving her about was easy. the chassis and running gear is all primed ready for top coats, the paint is now on order. We will brush paint all this but he cab will be etch primed and sprayed.

I have seen old photos of your truck when she looked to be in good condition. Are you still going to have her finished as a covered wagon? (or what ever the correct expression is?) |

Its surprising what condition she was in once all the paint has come off!
On first impressions she was very sound but not so, she had been left outside for many years and just layered up with paint each year to give some protection. Take the paint off and in many places she was shot, tin worm everywhere! She's well worth the effort though.
We have the canvas on order but its quite a long lead time as its bespoke to this body. So at some point over the summer she will have the tilt fitted. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I share your pain!!
My MG was presented nicely by a convivial old chap... who saw me coming!
Just keep at it. You WILL get there eventually...and it will all be worth it!
(at least that is what I keep telling myself!) |

We have the bit between our teeth now, spending as much time on the lorry as possible. She will be finished in time for some shows this year. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Spent the last few months working on rebuilding the body. So much rot in the timber I have been making repair sections where I can to retain as much of the original as possible.
Some sections cannot be repaired though, the 3m long side members included. I have ordered the timber for these, planed and cut to length, it should be delivered on the 17th June. But once here there is an awful lot of marking up and drilling to be done. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

So, after many months of hard work I have cut out all the rotted timber, fabricated repair sections in order to keep as much as the original as possible, and marked and drilled new side members and a full new rear cross member assembly.
I am quite pleased with the result.

It's come on a long way since I last posted an update.
The body is almost finished now, all the timber is replaced and we've just fitter the new bed.
It's now down to paint. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
