Amazing, indeed. I have never had an engine not be able to run without the exhaust. I presume it is all down to back pressure?

I had a similar problem on my Morris 8 after I restored it. The engine would start and idle but would not accelerate. I checked everything except my new SS exhaust. It turned out to be the silencer which I had told them must not have any appreciable back pressure when I ordered it!! After disconnecting the exhaust it accelerated normally I rang them and they told me to take it back. Eventually they gave me a replacement with no back pressure.

A big week ahead...

After 15 years I left my job on Friday...I have been offered a job that is only 20 mins from home, I travel just over an hour in the current job, it's better money and importantly it offers good flexible working...so more time on the vehicles...

Anyway, I have a week between jobs now and the forecast down here in Somerset is very good for painting....I have ordered the paint for top coats so I am hoping to get the cab and all the body and fittings painted with 2 coats by the end of the week...

First show is the last weekend May so get the paint done this week and we should be on course...fingers crossed.

Our Lanchester wouldn't run when we first got it and we couldn't figure it out until someone suggested repairing the hole in the exhaust. Did that and it ran fine. Up until then I'd never encountered an engine that wouldn't run properly because of an exhaust leak.

Truck is looking really smart.

Good luck with the new job, and the Commer of course Smile

I am certainly making the most of my week off between jobs Rick, we normally spend 2-3 hours a week on the lorry. The last two days we've spent 15 hours on her!!

We're now very confident that she will be at her first show the last weekend in May. She won't be 100% finished but she will be there.

We waited all last week for our paint to be delivered...nothing. So I contacted the supplied and almost 2 weeks later now they have sent on another batch!!

It was despatched but simply hasn't arrived apparently!

The almost finished article.....3 years of restoration and just some finishing off to do now.

Very pleased with the result.

Here's another shot of her showing her side proportions. This is showing her new bespoke Canvas.

I've been asked a lot of questions about colour choice. But this is the correct colour for 1942-3, its called SCC2 Brown and it was used as there was a lack of green pigment available mid war. Most people think military is olive green but that's simply not the case.

The weather is so horrible here we've started to get the Commer ready for the upcoming season inside the shed.

Oil has been drained and new topped up then today we filled the coolant system, with adding some Ankersol.

She starts well on the choke and with a bit of tinkering with the slow running she now ticks over a nice pace. We left her running up for around 30 minutes.

No problems at all, no overheating only some initial overflow out the radiator.
