Looks like the last Avro Vulcan to fly, XH559, is about to be scrapped as the airport management have told the Vulcan To The Sky Trust that at the end of their lease next year they will have to move it out of the airport. Miserable lot up that way.

XH558, isn't it?

Apparently there's a lot going on with this - VTTS had a certain amount of time to sort out buying a section of the land to build a hangar on (which was a requirement of their lottery grant a few years back) but haven't done so, the time has expired and so they've missed the chance. Now they're dangling the carrot of a short "ferry flight" to raise some more money, when there's virtually no chance that will be allowed.

I have no direct knowledge of what's gone on, but many people are quite disparaging over where the millions that have been raised have been spent. Lots have decided that VTTS, unfortunately, now stands for "Vulcan to the skip".

That VTTS managed to get 558 back in the air was an incredible achievement. Its post-flying life seems to have been less well orchestrated sadly, and the options for the airframe now do not seem especially positive.

There is still an awful lot of fundraising going on for the Vulcan project.

It was indeed, and it was great to see.

Yes it is XH558 I hit the wrong key! They did not raise enough money for the hangar.
The costs of operating a jet bomber are significant and no doubt absorbed the millions very quickly.
Equally it would cost an enormous amount to get it up to a standard for the aviation authorities to grant a permit for a ferry flight, UK is not USA!.
First they have to find somewhere that wants it and has a suitable landing strip.
