Rear window seal looks okay, but it needs a new front one. I have obtained the necessary, but it will wait until Spring. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

I made the mistake of once getting Auto glass to fit a new windscreen to my GT6. They were not used to the older design and as a consequence stuffed it up. On those cars the trim insert needs to be fitted to the seal first and they tried fitting it afterwards and left it misshapen and ill fitting. I noticed from a photo of the car more recently that the trim has been left off completely.
May I suggest - if possible - you get help from someone who has done the job before? The rubber seals may be available but I understand the chrome trim is virtually unobtainable - unless, of course, someone knows differently.
Yes, there would originally have been - as you say - a "lightning" shape piece of chrome trim at the front... but to be honest I think the simpler design looks better; even if where the paint joins is not quite perfect. |

That's a totally neat one! Great score. My late grandpa used to have one and was passed to my uncle. We will visit them this weekend for a family gathering and mounting of the shocks from 4Wheelonline onto his Jeep. I'll ask if he still got some photos of the Cambridge |

Spent a few days checking the A55 out since we are now in a slightly warmer situation weatherwise. Brakes look okay, although the front shoes are a little thin. Fortunately I have some spares which I will fit at some point.
There was a slight oil leak at one of the rear flanges.
I suspect that, because the breather was bunged up, that it was being forced out when the axle became hot. I removed same, and cleaned it out. It certainly wouldn't have done much breathing!
I will keep my eye on things over the next few trips out and see if that is a cure. If not, I have a set of seals that I can fit, although obviously, I'd rather not tackle that unless absolutely necessary.
Trip out in the sun revealed a misfire, puzzling because I had fitted four new plugs. I tried each in turn for security with the engine ticking over. After getting a belt on number two, I switched off and disconnected the plug. Insides of the cap were very loose and clearly not making contact. I disconnected and started the engine and that was clearly the culprit.
A rummage in my spares box revealed a slightly different format plug cap, which I substituted and smooth running was returned.
A second more pleasant run in the sunshine ensued. Just now getting to grips with the freewheel! _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

New plug caps now substituted on all four cylinders and smooth running maintained. Have managed to find a full set of new brake shoes, so will probably replace exisiting at some point over the Summer.
Recent rain shower shows that dodgy front windscreen seal is leaking at one corner, so must advance the replacement of that. Will make enquiries locally and see if anyone can do the replacement. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

Had a nice run in the sun and called in on a local restorer, to talk about sorting out the perished rubbers on windscreen and rear screen. Should be done mid June.
Drove about 25 miles all in all, and managed to get back before the schools turned out and the road was flooded with mummies in big SUV's. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

I think you are doing exactly the best thing for the Cambridge by getting new screen seals. You don't need me to tell you that care needs to be taken with the chrome trim... |

Now in for new screen seal fitting. Original one sent by so called specialist turned out to be for a rear screen in spite of being labelled for a front one. However, I found the correct one from a supplier over in Derbyshire.
Quite a complex job since parts of the moulding overlap internal trim as well as others sealing the exterior to the bodywork. best left to someone who knows what he is doing!
Pleased to report that the flanges under the rubber were totally rust free, not even any surface rust.
Also having the steel sliding roof refitted with new seals. I might dare to use it now! _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction

I am sure you have done the best thing in the circumstances. These screens, as you say, are quite complex and require an experienced fitter to be sure of success.
I hope it all turns out as you want. |

Definitely sounds the best route to get the seals done to me, someone who knows what they are doing.

The Austin came home yesterday in between showers, with its new screen rubbers fitted and the roof and boot painted in the correct matching colours (OEW). So now it looks the part, I just need to fit the 'Lightning Flash' trims to the front wings.
Pictures were taken in the garage, due to rain, I will take a couple of pictures of the car as a whole when we get some fine weather.
Work was done by Greenwoods in Eccleston, who also buffed up the rest of the car to match.
Colour looks a bit odd in lower image, but this is due to garage lights. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction
