Looks like a reasonable example. Bit of rust, not too bad. These have a massive chassis. If you are accustomed to modern cars, you will be pleasantly surprised how comfortable these cars are. It is a quality car which shows in many ways, the way levers, handles and switches work for example. Not sporty at all but a smooth 6 cylinder engine. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

I guess it depends on how far you want to go with it. Better take on something like this and improve to your own satisfaction
rather than pay a lot more for something that has cosmetically been done up by someone else just to flip.
It is too easy for the unscrupulous to cut corners.

Rick. If you get to see one of these with the idea of buying, try and get the seller to let you jack it up and remove a n/s rear wheel.
Apart from observing any oil on the rear brake drums you want to check the chassis around the bump stop area as this is prone to rot.
Fortunately Rover used good steel so the area can be repaired but the car would need to be cheap.
More worrying would be a cracked exhaust manifold. This happens because the retaining bolts have been done up too tight;
not allowing for expansion. This is a common problem and spares have all but dried up.
Another thing to watch out for in pre 1960 cars is a clatter from the engine. It is a warning that the camshaft has seen better days.
Probably due to infrequent oil changes. If it sounds expensive it probably is! |
