In their own words:

I think the Mk1, 2 door Escort has lovely lines.

I can't say that I agree about the lines but I remember an uncle replacing his 997 Anglia with Mk1 Escort and being very impressed by how it drove.

I liked the Anglia for it's character. When the Escort came out I hated the look of the thing. It appeared to be wearing spectacles!

It wasn't until we had one in for servicing that I realised what all the fuss had been about. I had to admit that the Escort was a better car in all respects and when the RS 1600 appeared I was smitten!!

I've had Escorts, and Anglias.
The Escort seemed to be the start of the new 70's era family cars....whereas teh Anglia still had many hangovers from the early '60's family cars....
However, I always viewed the Escort from its banger status....It was a cheap, sometimes decent family car....which had it's faults as age took control.
Much like the Viva, and the FIAT stuff from the continong.

I am somewhat dismayed that an Escort today can be deemed to have a greater financial value than an Alvis or a Bentley of the older era.
I see no value in an RS or a twink, unless one is intent on doing motorsport.

I am totally ambivalent about any Escort's interior....it does nothing for me....yet it would be the only part of the car I'd be seeing, if I drove one..

In the late 70's, I had a work colleague who had a Mk2 Mexico....it was the only car I've ever been in which instantly made me nauseous. Seemed it was something to do with the plastics Ford used on the interior?

...but I am looking back to 1970 when I was 16. Back then it was all a big adventure... Razz
