So, we now are able to drive our Commer truck out and back in the shed. We have her starting nicely and ticks over very quietly without any choke.
Our issue is that she has an overflow pipe and for a good 5-10 mins after the engine has been stops she drips petrol from the overflow.
It may not sound a lot but we've had to start leaving a container under the pipe to catch the steady drip of fuel.
My question is, as she's running nicely and not fast without choke, why would we be losing so much fuel after the engine stops?

I don't think we have ever had that question before on here. I suppose the first thing to establish is whether the fuel is being syphoned out or pushed out under pressure. Perhaps there is a vent pipe blocked somewhere.?
I am clutching at straws to be honest. |

Can height of float in float chamber be adjusted?
Has the needle valve[or equivalent] got a good seat?

If you do not need the choke in the cold then you have an over fuelling problem and need to make adjustments to your carburettor. Then check if you have an overflow.

We have checked her again this morning. She only drips when the engine has been run and then turned off. Not whilst she's running.

Mechanical pump of course, NOT electric???
If the first, have you changed the pump and possibly got one which delivers the fuel at a higher pressure resulting i9n a pressurised float chamber?
Would it be possible to fit a return pipe back to the tank like a lot of moderns have?

Clutching at straws here, but is it possible that fuel in the line is being vapourised by residual engine heat, and that is creating pressure in the system leading to a leak from the carb? Maybe you could try rigging up a simple gravity feed from a bottle or can of some sort kept well away from the heat of the engine, and see what happens? Modern petrol seems prone to vapourising and causing problems, perhaps you need to think about rerouting the fuel line. |

In the short term that is what we are going to do, we are going to rig up a return from the overflow pipe to the tank. She runs very well so we're not concerned about her running.
One other thing is that she hasn't been out on the road yet, the engine hasn't been tested under road conditions, only tickover to move her in and out the shed. So, the results might be different when she's put under duress?
