I consider the original push rod design to be a compromise; not the best design. This video shows how the later design is also a compromise.

I’d stick with the original, like everything else on a car it needs to be inspected/ maintained, but has served thousands of BMC vehicles for decades without much concern. |

Yes, I have no plans to change my original set up...although I have replaced worn out parts with quality new ones. I doubt I will ever put enough miles on my car, however, I would suggest it is aways better not to load one side of the master cylinder more than another over a long period of time which is what this design can do. |

I had the rod disconnect at the ball joint on my original Morris 8 in 1956 and heaved on the handbrake to stop. Gave me a bit of a fright when I pressed the pedal and there was nothing there!
They should have used a spring clip to stop the ball falling out when the push rod recess gets worn.
I replaced the lot PDQ. Of course we could get parts from the local Morris Dealer easily in those days. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)
