An article in Popular Mechnics says that a company in Florida is going at start building Catalinas again. Not rebuilding old ones. Brand new, but with modern turboprops.
Search "popular mechanics Catalina " and you will find it.

They have been used as waterbombers, so that would be a good reason to build new ones regardless of other ideas.
