Hi
I owned two of these 1941 Plymouth army utes over 40 years ago . These Australian military Plymouth utes came in three versions: Dodge,Plymouth and DeSoto , it was just badge engineering, they were actally all Plymouths.
They are based on the 1941 Plymouth sedan chassis which was imported from Canada . TJ Richards built the bodywork. The example pictured ( Dodge) was restored by a chap in QLD. My DeSoto is pictured, back in those days these cars could be purchased for their scrap value. My restoring skills were not up to standard and I sold the utes to a guy who was in the Chrysler Owners Club.
I wrote an article about these utes for the Plymouth club magazine in the USA , the editor was amazed, he had never seen any thing like these utes before ! The Plymouth I bought , I drove it home as it was still registered.
The pipe looking device on the passenger side is a Bren gun AA mount.
