I wasn?t aware that only vehicles manufactured after 1958 were required to have any form of indicator, clearly many pre war had semaphores, even though they weren?t legally required.

The proposed introduction of flashing indicators caused some debate in parliament, with some members concerned that flashing indicators would be dangerous! It seems comical reading the arguments these days, link below takes you to the transcript.
