My Austin Swallow has a scuttle tank so the bonnet has to be opened to gain access to the filler.
Incidentally, they may stop you from filling your Consul...? |

Like the Renault and Imp, the Fiat 850 had their filler in the engine compartment ...but the early VW Beetle had it under the boot lid at the front.
Much safer proposition, I would have thought. |

we dont have a bp localy but the filler is above the bumper but i do need to open the boot for the addative |

As I recall, many Fords (Consul, Zephyr, Zodiac and later Corsair) had their filler cap hidden from view behind the number plate which folded for access.
I always thought that was a cool feature. |

I do not understand the idea of not authorising the pump if any part of the car is open... there are vast numbers of work vans on the road where the passenger side door has to be open to access the fuel cap.
Of course the obvious workaround is to pump the petrol into an authorised container - presumably that is still allowed - then pour it into the tank, probably best to drive round the corner and out of sight or they will start getting stroppy about jerry cans! |

I don't know, but possibly this is to do with theft prevention, not being able to read the rear number plate if the boot is open, thief's knowing that the camera can't read the number plate and leave without paying?
Having doors open may also be an indication of wanting to make a quick escape? |

This all smacks of absurd regulations.
...talking of which; I have learned that the famous Harry Potter steam locomotive Olton Hall - better known as the Hogwarts Express - has been languishing in the sidings because it's carriages have not been retro fitted with remote controlled locking, as demanded by H&S. It would cost 7 million pounds to do; something that the heritage railway cannot afford. |

The financial hit to tourism in the area is a disaster. The damage to our National heritage could be irreversible if this is rolled out.
Bad enough that they are having to find a 'non coal' resource without being pestered by a well paid little man with a clipboard doing a box ticking exercise... |
