I inherited these from my Dad. I think they are a WW2 motorcycle magneto set. I suppose they belong in a museum collection but I find them invaluable working on old machinery.

The sizes go from 15/64" to 7/16". There being two spanners for each size. One end is straight; the opposite end being angled.

Not surprisingly, the canvas has deteriorated over time but at the moment is still serviceable.

What a useful little set; I wish they were mine!

Sorry, Mike. These have a sentimental value to me...otherwise I might let them go.

I have a small set with the same offsets....US-made too...up to 5/8th...Not a long a shank as Ray's, however.

"offsets"......that's the word! I just couldn't think of it at the time. Very Happy

I have these moments of clarity..Not often, however.

They were a give-away [not ''gifted,'' since a spanner is only as intelligent as the hand wielding it]...from a neighbour clearing out their workshop.
A bit of a lucky stroke, really, since, when I had the Mustang, a spanner with a right angle offset [one end] was the only thing that would 'get on to' the bolt holding the distributor ....

I collect wartime tools to go with our military display and these are very similar to some I posses.

Are they stamped at all with a date or crows foot?

Definately something to keep Ray.

Yes, they are stamped W Tyres & Co. and have the crows foot. Dated 1945.

W Tyres & Co. were a Sheffield company.

A nice set available on Ebay.

Yes. My Dad rode a Norton CS1 500 single during the War years. This set would have been part of a maintenance kit. I presume it would have been for a magneto?

There was always some confusion because the Norton was his own bike; not a Military issue.

The Arrow before 1945 indicates they were for the UK war department.
There were big sales of surplus WW2 tools, vehicles and all sorts of equipment after the war. There were even shops who were called something "Surplus" or "Disposals" that sold much of the equipment and tools. Our scoutmaster bought a Standard "Tilly van" which was a Standard 10 pickup with a canvas top on the rear. We used to travel in the back with our billy cart to race other scout troops and to camps, but I doubt it would be legal today to travel that way. It certainly is not in Australia.
