hi All
This is a very interesting forum and thanks to Rick and the OCC team for all of their hard work and time . The OCC utube channel is my go to fav. place ! I had no idea that classic cars are so popular to own in the U.K.
Don't want to bore everybody with my self-interest horn blowing stories about being the worst mechanic of all time....
As a first car I had a 1960 Triumph Herald Coupe , it was assembled by AMI here in Melbourne .... AMI didn't continue on with importing them after around 1962 and the later Herald/Vitesse variants are very rare here . I believe the last Standards assembled by AMI were a batch of 6 cyl. Vanguard utes or pickups, around 1963/4 . AMI then changed over to assembling Toyota.
Then it was a 1942 Willys Jeep .
Then a 1946 Dodge ute or pickup... Same model as Rick's lovely truck but Right Hand Drive and with a Aust, built ute body. Canadian built at Windsor Ontario.
Currently I am working on a 1941 ex-military Morris-Commercial CS8 15 cwt truck.... these are a 1930s era truck . Engine is variant of the Morris 25 6 cyl. with 82mm bore and 110mm stroke. Need a head gasket.
That's it for now Mike |

You may find that a couple of second hand/new old car parts dealers in Melbourne could have a head gasket. There are more Morris 25 cars in Melbourne than probably anywhere else. You could also advertise for one in the Morris Register of Victoria Newsletter. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

Thanks for your interest . Auto Surplus in Croydon South have Morris 25 head gaskets for the earlier series 1 1933-36 models. But I need the 1937 series 2 gasket, they revised the gasket and changed the gap between the cylinders. Quite a few of the parts places in Melbourne have closed. Spares Galore ( Norm W.) closed down, I think his son Jim runs his own classic car parts business.
Yes I will try a advert in the MOREG Victoria newsletter.
I did see a restoration blog on a Morris 25 in Melbourne, the owner had a head gasket custom made ( now he can buy one from Auto Surplus !) . Here is a link to the blog https://vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/6327/morris-25-restoration
My Dodge ute in 1979 in Central West NSW, rough dirt roads, the tailgate fell off and the steering drag link almost came off the drop arm !

Welcome to the forum Mike,
Sorry, don't know of a source for your Morris head gasket, but love the old ute! A mate of mine has an unrestored one the same, I think about 1945 or thereabouts, TJ Richards body, pretty rough, but he intends to do something with it when he finishes the current project.

Thanks Rusty
The Dodge utes are less common compared to the Chevy utes .
Your friends Dodge will probably have a Canadian motor, these are slightly longer (about 1") than the USA Dodge pickup motors. Chrysler engineers lengthened the engine block in order to accommodate the larger 3 and 3/8" bore size . They increased the bore size again to 3 and 7/16" . The shorter length motors are up to 3 and 1/4" bore size.
Canada was and still is in the 'Commonwealth Empire' and the Empire nations had trade agreements that had economic advantages ... many of the USA brands of cars here in Australia were imported from Canadian factories , the body work was built in Australia but even the bonnet and grill and wings were imported. The Canadian car factories were located just over the USA border from Detroit, Ford GM and Chrysler all set up factories in Canada, places like Windsor and Oshawa in Ontario. this is where the Right Hand Drive components were manufactured.
The Aust. army used these Dodge utes during WW2 , some had separate cab/bodywork. Some had a wide box like body fitted . TJ Richards made the cabs with a roof hatch opening windscreen and other army mods like the towing D rings on the bumber bar and the leaf spring crash guard.

Rogers ute has the same type of Coupe utility body as the one you posted the photo of. I know the motor is "stuck" but its probably not too bad, its always had the bonnet on and the plugs are still in it. He has dropped a bit of Diesel into the cylinders but I don't know if he has tried to free it. I didn't know about the different cylinder blocks from Canada! I did know that English "Kew" Dodges were bigger, so "you learns sumfink every day if'n yous lissens"

Massey Harris combine harvesters used a Chrysler flat head 6 . I think it was a large 261ci. engine.
This Chrysler car collector I knew many years ago , he used to go around the farm machinery dealers and buy the engines out of the harvesters.
I have a old DC welder that is powered by a Dodge 6 motor .. the long engine
Yes the Kew engines were popular ... Most of them were 250ci.
My Dodge Ute engine was 218ci .... 3 and 3/8" bore x 4 and 1/16" stroke. |

Dodge trucks were pretty much ubiquitous back in those days
I found this wartime advert for Richards Industries . Richards was no. 3 behind GM-H and Ford Australia in terms of car body building in Australia.
And, a Melbourne wartime scene: a 1940 Mercury police car with the C prefix plates. State library of Victoria pic. Mercury cars have the larger bore 3 and 3/8" 95bhp V8 engine, not many other cars would have escaped a pursuit. Note the blackout covers on the headlights
