|
|
We have a show around 45 miles away from us and my plan was to take both of our Commers...our restored 1942 30cwt and our unrestored 1944 15cwt. My thought was that it would be a good thing to sort of see a before and after of MV restoration?
Well, I've requested a quote to transport them on a low loader from a number of local companies. My issue now is the shear cost of it, my family have been in transport for years and we simply cannot understand the quotes we are getting.
Last night took the biscuit. A company we have known for years and have transported military vehicles before for friends, they came back with a quote of 1850 GBP to take the two trucks on one load 45 miles each way!!! And that's from a company we thought were sympathetic to our hobby!!
We are seriously considering buying our own transporter for the coming years so that we can take our vehicles further afield.
With our cars we don't have an issue driving them to any event, if something happens they are easily towed by another car or we can phone the AA. Something happens with the trucks, which does happen more often, then it makes it a lot more difficult to recover. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Yes, the pound sign causes an error message, though it does appear that the post is stored despite the error suggesting that it won't be.
Back to the OP, those sound like "we don't want the job" quotes to me. Do you know anyone with steamers that might be able to put you onto someone? _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

Funny you should say that, I don't know of any personally but we are at a show with one of the cars next weekend and they have a lot of steamers and tractors from the locality. All the low loaders park together for the weekend so I will go and 'introduce' myself and ask around. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

So, one company that were one of the better quotes after being told they were too expensive for my budget have come back to me and said they can 'adjust' the price to suit my plans!?!?!
They are saying they'd like to leave their truck at the show for its duration in the lorry park as it would be a good source of advertising for them!!! _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

So, after explaining what vehicles we want to take to the show the company dropped their price by ?300!! Its now down to the figures we were quoted last year and tbh is not all that more than paying the fuel to get both lorries to and from the show.
We have gone with the quote, the company are reputable, they want to get more work in this sector and the chap is a vintage Commercial enthusiast so he's very sympathetic to what we are doing.
What this has done is taken a huge weight off our minds of getting two 80 odd years old trucks to and from a show that's a fair distance from us. It means we can put more into the planning of our display and more into simply enjoying the show. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Any use of a pound sign sends an error message and will not allow me to post... _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I now don't attempt to use a pound sign as it always shows as a question mark. |

I posted using the pound sign which is alt + 0163 on my computer, but when it arrived on the post it was a question mark.
