Hi All,
Anyone have any experience with fitting ratio adapters on mechanical speedometers? looking to increase the output- 1.5 ratio on my Smiths "governor" speedometer on my 1927 Morris. If anyone happens to have one sitting around id be very interested. A few in the US but cant find any here. |

I have indeed tried speedy Cables. Its a lot of money to just to get the speedo more accurate. The car only does 45mph so not going to get a speeding fine...just would be nice to not have the phone/gps speedometer stuck on the dash of a vintage car. Looking for a cheaper option really. The units are a simple gearbox but getting hold of them seems very difficult in the uk. |

Who says you won't get booked for doing 45MPH in a 30MPH area? I got booked in my 1936 Morris 8 in UK in about 1958! _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

It may be worth looking at any organisation associated with importing Jap vehicles to the UK. I have seen gearbox's that were designed to convert speedometer readings from KPH to MPH for cars like the early 90's Impreza's fitted with mechanical speedometers. Not quite the correct ratio for your requirement as they will be 1:1.6, but probably as accurate as a pre war Morris speedometer ever was!

Tachograph specialist is probably best bet. If you have one in your area they should be able to make one to suit.
Alternatively model makers gears but sadly, mostly plastic these days so may not last. There are also videos about making gear ratios sets if you're up for the challenge. _________________ Daimler Fifteen 1934 (now sold)

I had considered 3D printing some gears and trying to build a small gearbox but not sure i have the time and the cable connections might be the most challenging part. |
