This pub in Abingdon has been forced to change it's name because of the PC brigade. It is now called the Roaring Raindrop.

They should have changed it to The Stumpy, just to wind the PC brigade up... who probably never even use the pub anyway! |

What's wrong with 'The Midget' anyway? Have they got something against short people? |

If they felt they had to rename it, why not the MG Midget or the Magic Midget? I see they haven't renamed the location, it's still on Midget Close!
And no doubt someone will now object to Raindrop... it's a bit close to Snowflake, isn't it? _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I wonder if the Midget and Sprite Club could be persuaded to have gathering there.

They could have called the pub ''The Spridget?'' _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

Just shows what a ridiculous world it has become because some tiny noisy group don't like a particular name, and our "leaders" let them dictate to them, what a bunch of idiots we have elected. _________________ 1938 Morris 8 Ser II Coupe Utility (Pickup)

I'd have gone with: The Frog & Sprite
At least the new name (Roaring Raindrop) does still pay homage to the MG car company.

I like both 'The Frog and Sprite' and 'The Spridget' as pub names. They were of course built at Abingdon.
Sadly, there are more pubs closing down than opening so I doubt they will be needed any time soon.
Of course, 'The Frog and Sprite' might offend French fairies.....so perhaps it would need to be called 'The Ariel'...a famous Sprite from Shakespeare's Tempest ....yet still retaining an historic automotive link.?
Then again perhaps not as it has nothing to do with Abingdon. As suggested; just insert 'MG' into The ... Midget and everyone is happy. |
