I have never seen one of these before and am quite taken with it. I wonder how much it will sell for?

Bid up the ?17,750 but failed to meet reserve just like the last one on the market a couple of months ago, which failed to meet its ?20,000 estimate. Probably another sign that pre-War prices are not what they once were, and sellers need to moderate their expectations.

It's not just pre-war prices that are affected (although this era seems to have taken the biggest hit and it's not looking good for a bounce-back), it's pretty general across the classic car field. There are always exceptions to trends, and top-quality always sells (eventually), but generally it's becoming a buyer's market and prices are down across the board.

However, that means it's becoming a good time to buy and I'll be clearing a car-sized space in my garage in the coming weeks, ready to pull the trigger on something that takes my fancy when the opportunity arises and prices bottom out.

IRO the Rover in question, it looks very nice, however, I did lose some confidence in the description after reading "All wheels and tyres (including full-size spare) present very well" then taking a look at the photos... Just zoom in on the photos of those tyres and take a look at the cracks in the side walls.

Perhaps the highest bid wasn't that unrealistic after all, bearing the cost of a set of new tyres and fitting in mind, plus replacing any other similarly perishable items that may have fared as well in the aging and reliability/safety stakes?

I thought it would do more. If it were mine I would probably just keep hold of the car for now and try again another time.

I thought it would do more. But at the same time going on current prewar trends I'm not that surprised it didn't.

I did wonder if the rather ungainly rear of the car might put off some buyers.? It is neither elegant nor sporting but wouldn't bother me.

I think its rear only looks 'ungainly' when the hood is erected....Boxybum not noticeable as much with the folded hood on top, methinks?

Yes; the folded hood does hide it quite well ...but I get the feeling the 'boxy' back end it is something of an after thought when compared with the rest of the design which looks very good indeed.

I think I could live with it . Wink

Twenty thousand quid with the seats in that condition? I doubt it will fetch that the way the market is at present.

If the pre-War Speed Twenty can't make ?20,000, there's not much hope for a post-War Twelve, no matter what the condition.

The advert boasts "safety belt pre tensioners" and "central locking".

I'd be very surprised if it made anywhere near that. But it isn't a private sale so the asking price will be higher.

I actually like the seats in that tourer, but yes too pricey IMO.

Talking of pre-war Rovers, this Rover Meteor Regal (a model I'd not heard of before) is quite intriguing:
