That's certainly a gorgeous car. I like the two tone colour scheme.

My father bought one new in December 1956 in Essex UK. I borrowed it to take a girl I fancied out for the first time. That girl has been my wife now for just over 60 years, so I have a great history with the Consuls! In 1963 dad took it to Melbourne Australia where he used it daily until rust finally killed it in the mid seventies.

thanks, it should not really be 2 toned like that, done many years ago but yes it makes it look smarter, my wife & i had one when we were late teens and although the old consul is long gone still got the same wife1 she loves it and does do the polishing bits! mine was first registered in connaught road dagenham in april 57, do you know the place?

Consul 57,

We lived in Hockley, Essex at that time and dad's Consul came from Perry's in Southend. It was blue. From memory it cost 845 pounds. He had gone on the waiting list for a Prefect in 1948. He changed it to a Mk 1 Consul in about 1950. He was still on the never ending waiting list in 1956 when the UK government went wild and increased sales tax (purchase tax) to something like 45% and so many people dropped off the list that dad was able to get the new car. This is from memory from a long time ago, so don't quote my figures!
